Welcome to the Ebola Channel
Ebola hemorrhagic fever (also known as Ebola) is a contagious illness that has been reported in several African countries, including Uganda, Gabon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Caused by an infection with the Ebola virus, Ebola is often lethal in humans and nonhuman primates (such as monkeys and gorillas). Since 1970, there have been 18 confirmed outbreaks of Ebola. The illness has never been reported in humans in the United States. Symptoms of Ebola can appear as soon as 2 days, or as long as 21 days, after infection with the Ebola virus. Ebola symptoms can include vomiting; abdominal pain (or stomach pain); a dry, hacking cough; and a fever. There is currently no licensed Ebola vaccine for humans, and there is no Ebola treatment that will cure the infection once it begins.
